Set up printers for students (Mac, Card Stud HP)

How students set up the public Card Stud HP printers of ETH on a Mac: with the ISG Card-Stud HP package, then release your print job at any Card Stud HP printer with your ETH card.

These instructions are for students. Staff set up the printers with the ETH Printers tool: Set up printers for staff (HP, ETH Print).

At ETH, new public HP printers are available to all students across the entire ETH campus. Here you will find the instructions for setting up this printer under macOS. You can then use all functions, including stapling and punching, and release the print job at any location.

  1. Download

Download the ISG-D-ARCH Card-Stud HP package:

Click "Allow" [1].

  1. Installation
    Install the ISG-D-ARCH Card-Stud HP package on your Mac: Click "Downloads" [1] and select "Open in Finder" [2]. Then right-click the package and select "Open with" → "Installer (default)" [3]. Note: Double-clicking the .pkg file does not work!

If macOS blocks the installer with a security warning, allow it as follows: open Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Select "Open" [1] and then "Continue" [2]. Continue with "Install" [3]. Then enter your Mac password [4] and click "Install Software" [5]. In the next dialog window, click "OK" [6] and complete the installation with "Move to Trash" [7].

Your Card Stud HP printer is now installed. You can find it on your Mac in System Settings under "Printers & Scanners" [1] under "Printers" [2].

  1. Turn off tracking
    For printing to work at ETH, you must disable the default setting "Restrict IP address tracking":

    When you want to print (Command + P), select "Card Stud HP" [1] as the printer and then click "Print" [2].

The next step is only necessary for the first printout. Afterwards, all settings are saved and you can print directly without repeating this step.

Click "Print Center" [1] in the Dock and then click the lock symbol [2] in the window with the print queue. In the dialog window, enter "d\username" (username = your ETH username) [3] and your ETH standard password [4] (the same as for mail, server, etc.). Select the option "Save to keychain" [5] and complete the print job with "OK" [6].

You can now release your print job on any Card Stud HP printer at ETH.

Releasing the print: Hold your ETH card to the blue field on the printer and enter your PIN code. You can set the PIN code directly at the printer the first time you print, or reset it on the page www.print.ethz.ch on the left-hand side under "Change data".
