Set up Wi-Fi (eduroam)

If you want to connect to the ETH Wi-Fi, choose the network «eduroam».

Connecting to the SSID «eduroam»

To connect to the ETH Wi-Fi «eduroam», you have to configure the following settings once:

1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar of your Mac and choose «eduroam».

   

2. Students: In «Username:» enter your ETH username in the form username@student-net.ethz.ch and in «Password:» your ETH network password. Then click «Join».

   

Staff: In «Username:» enter your ETH username in the form username@staff-net.ethz.ch and in «Password:» your ETH network password. Then click «Join».

3. In the pop-up window that appears, choose «Show Certificate».

   

4. Check that «Always trust radius-service.ethz.ch» is selected. Then open the small triangle next to «Trust» and check that «Always Trust» is selected. Then click «Continue».

   

5. In the next pop-up window, enter your Mac username and your Mac password. Then click «Update Settings».

   

6. If the Wi-Fi icon now appears black, everything worked and your Mac will connect to the ETH Wi-Fi automatically in future.

   

7. For technical reasons, we also recommend disabling the option «Limit IP Address Tracking»:

   

eduroam

1. Download the eduroam configuration tool for Windows: https://cat.eduroam.org/

2. Run the downloaded eduroam file and start the installation.

3. On the last setup page, enter your credentials (staff and students have different realms):
   Staff use username@staff-net.ethz.ch as username.

   

Students use username@student-net.ethz.ch as username.

4. Now you can connect to eduroam.

How to connect to the ETH Wi-Fi (SSID «eduroam»)

1. Open «Settings».

   

2. Open «Wi-Fi».

   

3. Choose «eduroam».

   

4. Students: Enter username@student-net.ethz.ch and your ETH network password.
   (e.g. John Doe: jdoe@student-net.ethz.ch)

   

Staff: Enter username@staff-net.ethz.ch and your ETH network password.
(e.g. John Doe: jdoe@staff-net.ethz.ch)

5. Accept the certificate by tapping «Trust».

   

6. You are now connected to the ETH Wi-Fi (SSID «eduroam»).

Note: If you use the Swift keyboard, the hyphen may not be recognised. In this case, switch to the Google keyboard.
