Set up VPN

You need a secure VPN connection to access the ETH network from outside. This lets you connect to the ETH servers of your chair from home, for example.

Download the current Cisco Secure Client and then install the software:

Note: During installation, dialog boxes appear in the background. Confirm them with «Allow».

Staff

1. Start the Cisco Secure Client (Applications › Cisco › Cisco Secure Client). The first time, enter sslvpn.ethz.ch/staff-net (the address is saved afterwards) and click «Connect».

   

2. Fill in the following window as follows:

Username: username@staff-net.ethz.ch (username = your ETH username)

Password: your network password

Enter your One-Time Password (OTP) as «Second Password» and click «OK». You now have a secure connection to ETH and can connect to the servers of your chair, for example.

Students

1. Start the Cisco Secure Client (Applications › Cisco › Cisco Secure Client). The first time, enter sslvpn.ethz.ch/student-net (the address is saved afterwards) and click «Connect».

   

2. Fill in the following window as follows:

Username: username@student-net.ethz.ch (username = your ETH username)

Password: your network password

Enter your One-Time Password (OTP) as «Second Password» and click «OK». You now have a secure connection to ETH and can connect to the servers of your chair, for example.

The first time you start the Cisco Secure Client, you may have to enter the server address manually.

Staff

Students

• Username: username@student-net.ethz.ch

Set up ETH VPN on iOS

1. Open the App Store.

2. Search for «Cisco Secure Client».

3. Download the app.

4. Open «Cisco Secure Client».

   

5. For the configuration, follow these instructions:

1. Open the Play Store.

   

2. Search for Cisco Secure Client and download the app.

   

3. Select «Connections» («Verbindungen»).

   

4. Tap «Add Connection».

   

5. Fill in the «Server address» with the appropriate realm at the end (staff or student).

   

6. After confirming all dialogs, you can start the connection.

   

7. To log in, enter your ETH username followed by the corresponding realm (@…) and your network password.
